Judge Vera’s Civil Rights Experience Is an Asset to the Federal Bench

Washington Lena Zwarensteyn, senior director of the fair courts program at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, released the following statement on the Senate confirmation of Judge Hernán Vera to the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California:

“Judge Hernán Vera will be an excellent addition to the federal bench given his commitment to equal justice and significant experience as a fair-minded jurist. His background defending and protecting the rights of all people — including children, immigrants, consumers, and farm workers — brings much-needed civil rights expertise to the federal judiciary. Judge Vera’s lived experience as a Latino also brings an important and underrepresented perspective to our federal courts. His long-awaited confirmation is a step towards a judiciary that works for all of us.”
