Latest Version of Trump Transgender Service Ban Still Unconscionable and Unconstitutional
WASHINGTON – Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on the latest iteration of President Trump’s transgender military service ban:
“Hours after touting the importance of supporting a strong military, the Trump administration announced its latest version of the transgender service ban which would only weaken military readiness and national security. Several federal courts have blocked previous versions of the ban, and rightly so. This latest iteration still remains unconscionable and unconstitutional. Since taking office, this administration has demonstrated an open hostility to the rights and humanity of transgender people. We should applaud and support all qualified individuals who volunteer to serve in our armed forces. Indeed, there are already transgender patriots serving, all of whom deserve the respect of the Commander in Chief.”
