WASHINGTON – The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and All Voting is Local, with its joint And Still I Vote campaign, will hold multiple events in celebration of National Voter Education Week. Voting advocates will convene to discuss how voting varies by state, the importance of making a plan to vote in the midst of a pandemic, and the benefits of voting early.

WASHINGTON – In a Washington Post opinion piece, Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, illustrates how President Trump’s continued attacks on vote by mail are a desperate attempt at discouraging people from exercising their constitutional right to vote as polls show he is losing. She notes that the safest way to guard against threats to our democracy is for voters to turn out in record numbers this election season.

WASHINGTON – The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and more than 70 civil rights and education organizations today wrote in support of California’s Proposition 16, which would reinstate affirmative action in public higher education and afford all Californians equal opportunity to fully participate in society. Prop. 16 would repeal Prop. 209, the 1996 ban on affirmative action, and provide an opportunity to rectify years of discrimination against women and people of color in higher education.

WASHINGTON – This evening, following President Trump’s announcement of his nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court to fill Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s seat, principals of four major civil and legal rights advocacy organizations held a press call outlining the significance of his pick, what’s at stake with the nomination, and the importance of opposing any nominee who will gut and overturn Roe. v. Wade and undermine the Affordable Care Act amidst a worldwide pandemic.
