Dear Senator,

On behalf of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, a coalition charged by its diverse membership of more than 240 national organizations to promote and protect the rights of all persons in the United States, we urge you to support S. 4554, the Reproductive Freedom for Women Act, when the bill reaches the Senate floor. Access to abortion is under attack at the federal and state level, and this legislation expresses support for protecting access to reproductive health care after the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision and the need for continued progress toward reproductive freedom for all.

Abortion is health care, and everyone should be free to make their own decisions about their bodies, their lives, and their futures. The harmful Dobbs decision in 2022 took away our constitutional right to abortion and caused disproportionate harm to those who already experience barriers to health care access, including communities of color, LGBTQI+ people, people with low incomes, people with disabilities, and other marginalized communities. It especially impacts people of color — including Black, Latina, Native American, and Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander women in particular — who are more likely to live in states banning abortion. This legislation recognizes the tremendous harm the Dobbs decision has wrought and the imperative to protect access to abortion and reproductive health care nationwide.
