WASHINGTON, D.C., January 27, 2022 – National Women’s Law Center, National Coalition on Black Civic Participation/Black Women’s Roundtable, The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, Alliance for Justice, and People For the American Way will hold a joint press call today about Justice Stephen Breyer’s announcement of his impending retirement. President Biden has promised to nominate the nation’s first-ever Black woman to the Supreme Court, and he has promised that this nominee will have a demonstrated commitment to civil and human rights, and equal justice under the law. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has also indicated that he is planning to move the nominee quickly through the Senate confirmation process.
