WASHINGTON – Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 6, the American Dream and Promise Act, which would provide permanent status and a pathway to citizenship to Dreamers and beneficiaries of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Deferred Enforced Departure (DED).
“The passage of the American Dream and Promise Act is a historic moment for the nation and for each of the 2.5 million individuals who have built their lives here and deserve a long-term legislative solution. The Trump administration put their lives in limbo by targeting immigrants to score political points. But today, the House took a crucial step forward to reject that divisive agenda and instead uphold our American values. Now, the Senate must commit to swift passage of the Dream and Promise Act to provide certainty to these integral members of our communities.”
