WASHINGTON – Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on projections that Joe Biden has garnered enough votes in the Electoral College to be president-elect:

“In overwhelming numbers, despite a global pandemic, the people have spoken. We applaud all those who voted and thank those who administered and volunteered for the election. We join the nation in congratulating Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on their victory.

“Voters decisively rejected the unprecedented level of demagoguery, fearmongering, racism, and xenophobia we’ve seen over the last four years from those in power. These circumstances do not disappear on inauguration day, which is why the civil and human rights coalition stands ready to work with the new administration to usher in an era where we protect the most vulnerable and ensure that everyone has a seat at the table. Together, we will achieve an America as good as its ideals.”

The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights is a coalition charged by its diverse membership of more than 220 national organizations to promote and protect the rights of all persons in the United States.
