WASHINGTON — In an opinion piece published in the New York Daily News, Wade Henderson, interim president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, and Maya Wiley, incoming president and CEO of the organization, celebrate the Senate’s historic confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to serve as an associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court — while noting the unfinished business that remains.
“We honor her confirmation with the joy it deserves. We celebrate her extraordinary confirmation as lifelong civil and human rights advocates and as people whose lives from early childhood were shaped — and stifled — by racial segregation. As Justice Jackson rises as the first Black woman on the Supreme Court, we all rise. Now, urgent work must continue toward building a federal bench dedicated to equal justice for all,” Henderson and Wiley write.
