Washington, DC, October 7, 2020 – 121 civil rights groups and allies, including NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, and the National Women’s Law Center condemn the Executive Order on Combating Race and Sex Stereotyping issued by President Trump on September 22, 2020. The Executive Order is a blatant effort to perpetuate and codify a deeply flawed and skewed version of American history.

WASHINGTON — The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, joined by 149 other organizations, today urged the Senate to oppose the confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett to serve as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. The letter reflects the broad range of problematic issues in Judge Barrett’s record – from health care and reproductive rights to criminal justice and LGBTQ rights – underscoring the rights at risk with this Supreme Court vacancy. The letter also highlights the irresponsible and shameful process by which Leader McConnell is trying to rush this nomination through.

WASHINGTON – The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and All Voting is Local, with its joint And Still I Vote campaign, will hold multiple events in celebration of National Voter Education Week. Voting advocates will convene to discuss how voting varies by state, the importance of making a plan to vote in the midst of a pandemic, and the benefits of voting early.

She notes that the safest way to guard against threats to our democracy is for voters to turn out in record numbers this election season.

WASHINGTON – The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and more than 70 civil rights and education organizations today wrote in support of California’s Proposition 16, which would reinstate affirmative action in public higher education and afford all Californians equal opportunity to fully participate in society. Prop. 16 would repeal Prop. 209, the 1996 ban on affirmative action, and provide an opportunity to rectify years of discrimination against women and people of color in higher education.

Wade and undermine the Affordable Care Act amidst a worldwide pandemic.
